I wanted to take a moment to share something really special — GraySkiesPainting was featured in the April/May 2025 issue of 1889 Washington! 🎉

If you’re not already familiar with 1889, it’s a stunning publication that captures the spirit of Washington state through rich storytelling, photography, and profiles of creative people who call this region home. To be included in their My Work Space series is truly an honor — and an experience I won’t soon forget.

Working with the 1889 team was a total joy. From our first emails to the final layout, every interaction was thoughtful and respectful. They were genuinely curious about my process, my space, and the small details that bring GraySkiesPainting to life. It’s always vulnerable to invite people behind the scenes of your creative world, but their approach made it feel easy — like sitting down with old friends who get it.

The article is beautifully written, and the photos capture the quiet corners and textures of my studio — the chipped brush handles, paint-splattered surfaces, and light that hits just right during afternoon work sessions. It means a lot to see the mess, rhythm, and joy of everyday painting life reflected back with such care.

If you’d like to read the article, you can:

  • Subscribe online to 1889 Washington

  • Order the April/May 2025 issue directly from 1889mag.com

  • Or pick up a copy at your favorite newsstand or bookstore

Honestly, it’s a great issue all around — you might as well subscribe while you're there.

A huge thank you again to @1889washington for such a kind and generous feature. It means the world.

If you’d like to follow along with my work:

  • I share regular updates on BlueSky @grayskiespainting

  • And occasional glimpses over on Instagram @grayskies.painting

Thanks for being here and for supporting the quieter moments in art and life.

Grayskies

We all know the age old 'tortured artist' stereotype... that a creative that is suffering will be able to get in touch with their misery...
